Need a website?
It better be mobile responsive because by the year 2018 we estimate that over 80% of traffic will be via a mobile device!
Mobile responsive websites
So what is the difference between websites that are fully mobile responsive, those that are mobile friendly and websites that are neither of these things?
In the past it was necessary to build a separate website to cater for mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets.
Websites often struggled with the small screen size and even today there are websites that just plain don’t work on a mobile device. As technology advanced it was easy to make a website shrink to be viewable on the smaller screen sizes of smart phones and tablets (mobile devices). These sites are classed as mobile friendly – not perfect but at least you can see them on your mobile device.
Fully mobile responsive websites adapt to the smaller screen size rather than shrinking to fit. Wikipedia defines mobile responsive like this: “Responsive web design (RWD) is a web design approach aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing experience – easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling—across a wide range of devices (from mobile phones to desktop computer monitors).”
Mobile responsive eliminates the need to have a separate website for mobile devices. Only having a single site to maintain means less time wasted on duplicating content. A single site that looks fabulous on a desk top AND a phone gives a much better impression of your business no matter who your audience and what technology they are comfortable with. So why the fuss over mobile? The growth of the smart phone industry has been staggering in the last few years. When have you gone out and not seen a whole host of people looking intently at their phone screen?
Based on current trends we predict that 80% of the traffic coming to your website in 2018 will be via a mobile device. Already our customers are seeing in excess of 20-50% of traffic from smart phones and tablets.
Fully Mobile Responsive Websites are the way forward.
